This is a vintage Pashtun Kuchi choker necklace with elaborate dangles from the 1950s or 60s. The dangles feature 50 pul 1316-1333 Hijri (1937-1953) coins. The finials are curvy and openwork. The entire choker is decorated with colored glass and dangles. Some of the glass beads are missing. The necklace ties with a black cord attached to the ends. This would make a stunning statement necklace.

The beautiful pieces of jewelry with colorful glassĀ beads andĀ dangles that jingle are collectively known as Kuchi. They originally came from the nomadic Pashtun tribes that lived in both Afghanistan and Pakistan. The word Kuchi itself is derived from a Persian word meaning migration and does not describe a particular group but the nomadic lifestyle.Ā

Just in case you are allergic to nickel, please be aware that Kuchi jewelry often has nickel.

  • The length is 34 cm (13 1/2") without the ties.
  • Depth is 16 cm (6 1/4").Ā
  • Weight is 460 g.
